Albany Tours
At 418 kilometres (260 mi) southeast of Perth, the port city of Albany is Western Australia’s oldest permanently settled town, replete with historical remnants and museums. With gorgeous views of Mount Melville to the west and Mount Clarence to the east, Albany is nestled within the northern borders of Princess Royal Harbour – a section of King George Sound.
Albany is a popular tourist base for exploring the nearby attractions, as well as further afield. There’s so much to do in and around Albany. Visit some spectacular beaches, such as Little Beach – which has been named one of the country’s best beaches – or Middleton Beach, which is full of charms like the sheltered Ellen Cove, the boardwalk and Emu Point. Scenic drives that lead to amazing lookouts are definitely a favourite of visitors. Princess Royal Drive is gorgeous, while a trip along Apex Drive to Padre White Lookout or Mt Clarence Desert Corps Memorial is a photographer’s dream. You can visit the interesting Albany Wind Farm and take in the views from the surrounding walking trails. Local museums telling the stories of Albany’s whaling past and military history offer a true insight into the area’s past. Have your photo taken at ‘Dog Rock’ on Middleton Road – a must-see novelty consisting of a granite rock in the profile of a dog.
A whale-watching cruise will allow you to see humpback and blue whales as they journey past on their annual migration or explore other sea life by swimming or snorkelling at Wilson Inlet. The huge number of nature walks – such as Bibbulmun Track, Bluff Knoll and Porongurup, Stirling Range or William Bay National Parks – offer the opportunity to soak up the area’s natural beauty and see wildlife in its natural environment. At the end of the day, you will have an almost unlimited choice in fine dining with Albany’s amazing range of local produce, wines and spirits.
